CNRS, in collaboration with International Rescue Committee, Uttaran- A Social Development Organization and JAGO NARI, is pleased to announce the successful completion of the “National Level Consultation Workshop on Local Adaptation Plan of Action (LAPA) Development.” The workshop was held on 29th September 2024 at Crowne Plaza, Gulshan-2, Dhaka, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss the development and implementation of locally-driven adaptation strategies aimed at building community resilience to climate change impacts.
The workshop commenced with a welcome speech by Mr. Dr. Akhter Hussain, Honorable Chairman of CNRS, followed by special remarks from Ms. Hasina Rahman, Honorable Country Director of the International Rescue Committee (IRC). Their speeches highlighted the importance of inclusive and community-led initiatives in addressing the challenges posed by climate change, particularly in vulnerable regions of Bangladesh.
A detailed presentation was delivered by Dr. Aminul Islam, Lead Consultant for LAPA Development, outlining the LAPA development process and sharing key findings from Union, Upazila, and district-level consultations. The Executive Director of Uttaran also shared experiences as an implementing partner, emphasizing community involvement in the process.
The workshop featured an engaging plenary discussion on “Institutional Roles and Implementation Capacity of the Local Adaptation Plan.” Esteemed panelists, Dr. Shamsuddoha (CPRD), Ms. Hasina Rahman (IRC), Dr. Md. Golam Mahboob (BARC), and Ms. Shahrin Mannan (GCA), shared their perspectives on effective local adaptation planning and the roles of institutions in ensuring its sustainability.
Participants actively contributed to open group discussions moderated by Dr. Md. Mafizur Rahman, Consultant for LAPA Development, identifying ways forward to strengthen coordination and capacity for LAPA implementation.
The workshop concluded with closing remarks by the Executive Director of Jago Nari, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts to ensure that locally led adaptation actions are effectively implemented and sustained.
The National Level Consultation Workshop provided a platform for fruitful discussions on enhancing community resilience through participatory planning, and it reaffirmed the commitment of all stakeholders to support the implementation of LAPAs to address the challenges of climate change in Bangladesh.
