Salma’s Inspiring Journey with the LIFE Project

Salma Sultana Shathi, 29, lives in Telkhola and helps to run goat bank activities. Everyone from her village knows her because she holds the president position within her village’s goat bank group. In the goat bank, Salma has organised the beneficiaries into three groups. Initially, she formed a group for all the mother goats. The second group received goat kids, while the third group received goat kids from the second group.

Salma eagerly participated in basic goat-rearing, crop production technology, and nutrition training. She learned invaluable skills about goat care, including the need for goats to have a high, dry place to stay when it rains. Applying her learnings, she now uses cloth and plastic to ensure their shelters are safe places for them. Before adding goats to the Goat Bank, she ensures the goats are healthy and have received their vaccines. If any goat falls ill, she uses project funds to take it to the vet. Salma regularly visits beneficiaries’ homes and arranges household meetings, always keeping an eye on the goats’ well-being. She and her team work diligently to keep their goats healthy. The community is very proud to see her dedication to this significant initiative by the LIFE project.

“Starting with nine goats given by the LIFE Project, our little goat family grew to eighteen, and we have already found new homes for them through distribution.”
