Painnocing Chakma, among the beneficiaries in her community, she has greatly benefitted from the LIFE’s goat bank activities. A 37-year-old farmer from Telkhola, Painnocing represents those the LIFE project aims to assist individuals facing difficulties in maintaining their livelihoods. The project provided her with a baby goat, along with the necessary medicine and training to ensure its health.
Furthermore, she received agriculture cultivation trainings from the LIFE project. Subsequently, she began cultivating vegetables in her courtyard and on her land, selling them at the market to cover her monthly expenses.
While Painnocing expressed gratitude for the initial assistance with the goat, she made an important observation about her community’s preferences: pigs were more favoured than goats, solding higher prices in the market. Thus, she decided to switch to pig farming. By selling the goat provided by the LIFE project, she purchased a pig instead saying,
“In the Chakma community, the market for pigs is larger and more profitable than the market for goats. Goats can be sold from 2000 BDT to 2500 BDT in our community, but we can sell a pig in our community between 6000 and 7000 BDT.”
With a grateful heart, Painnocing humbly requested to consider starting a pig Bank for the Chakma community going forward She believes it would bring even more prosperity to her community.
